Shuai Peng: Tennis Integrity Unit ban and fine for coercion

I am very disappointed in Shuai Peng!

Obviously I do not know the whole story but to try to 'pay off' another player at a Grand Slam event so that she can play with a higher quality doubles partner is both in bad taste and also very un-sportsman like of her and her team, you just don't do it Grand Slam event or not!. The coach should also have known better and was to be fair probably the one doing the behind the scenes coercion between the players.

The Chinese player as you all know has been a favourite of mine for many years and has been a brilliant player in both singles and also doubles where she has been ranked WTA number 1 and won Wimbledon and French Open doubles titles with Su Wei Hsieh.

Overall it’s only a small stain on Peng's career. Stupid, naive and DISRESPECTFUL in my eyes. Although some players will ultimately have lost some respect for the Chinese player, she will be back in November after her ban and still playing quality tennis for many years to come.
